Why this tool
- Exact frames. Unlike screen capture, you get the original frames as they were encoded.
- Save just the one you want, or every frame at once as a ZIP.
- See how long each frame lasts, in milliseconds.
- Nothing is uploaded. The work happens inside your browser.
How to use it
- Drop a GIF or animated WebP in, or click to choose one.
- The frames appear in a list.
- Press Save on the frame you want, or "Save every frame" for all of them.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and this site has no way to receive your images.
Which browsers does this work in?
Please use Chrome, Edge, or Chrome on Android. Safari and Firefox have no way yet to split an animation into frames, so this page cannot work there.
Capturing the animation as it plays is possible, but the timing drifts and the frames come out different from the original, so we do not do it that way.
I want a still from a video
For a video (MP4 and the like), use Still from a video. This page is for animated images such as GIF and animated WebP.
How much can I use for free? Are there limits?
Every feature, as many times as you like. No daily limit and no account. Up to 500 frames at once, which is what a browser can handle in one go.
Does this work on a phone?
It works in Chrome on Android. It cannot work in Safari on an iPhone, for the reason above.
- Keep this page open while it works.
- Saved files go to the Files app. To put them in Photos, use "Share" next to the save button.
