Grab a still from an MP4 and save it as PNG
This page opens with PNG already selected. Drop a video in, pick the moment, save the image. Everything happens inside your browser, so your video is never uploaded.
Play and pause, or step frame by frame. The ← → keys work too (hold Shift for 10 frames).

Landing on exactly the right frame
From wherever you pause, you can step one frame at a time. On a 30 fps video that is 1/30 of a second per step, which is what you need to skip a blink or a blurred moment.
- The decisive moment in a sports clip, or a clear shot of a hand movement for instructions.
- A thumbnail for the video itself.
- A single screen from a recording, to paste into a document.
PNG or JPEG?
- PNG loses nothing. Best for text, diagrams and screen recordings with sharp edges. Larger files.
- JPEG makes much smaller files. Best for photographic scenes, and handy when you need many images in one document.
- If you are unsure, keep PNG — you can convert it later with Convert images.
About quality
With "Image width" left as it is, the still is saved at the video's own resolution: a 1920×1080 video gives a 1920×1080 image, and you can pick a smaller width if you want one. PNG does not make the picture sharper than the video, because detail lost to video compression cannot come back.
Questions
How many stills can I save?
As many as you like — there is no limit. Pick a moment, save, repeat.
Does it work with MOV or WebM?
Yes — MP4, MOV, WebM and anything else your browser can play.
How large a video can I open?
Up to 2 GB. Long videos are fine, because only the frames you save are processed.
I want a moving image instead
Use Video to GIF for that.
To save as JPEG, change "Image format" above; the full description of the tool is onGrab a still.
